Paper Boy

I wrote a song about the stars, How they reflected like your eyes, But then I realized it was already done. I stood outside of your house, I said we'd build a Taj Mahal But little did I know it was already done. We'll figure it out in time, I know it's easier than done, As we run but listen close, And I will tell you why. Well pretty little lady, This is a mighty fix you've put me in, What could I possibly do, To show you my love and affection, And then I realized it's simple as love.

Eyes wide open, With a sense of relief in my heart, Rest a glance at your form, As you rest in an arc. Reach out, To say that I love you for all of your cheer, My finger, it brushes your hair, That bothers your cheek. With eyes wide open, I draw your face, In my mind, Time closes on me. Eyes wide open, As I wake from a deep slumber, Shrug away, The warmth of a hand off my shoulder. Smile to myself, As your presence still lingers, Recall with affection, The touch on my cheek forever. With eyes wide open, I saw a dream of your face, It lingers but wait, Time closes on me.

Home 03:04
Take a train, Run away to the edge of yesterday, I will never say, That you were gone away, From the morn of yesterday. The picture on a desk it ages, As the hand ticked away at the pages, And wonders, If the sun has drowned, Or left behind the town without a sight or sound. So you follow a trail back home, Rest in unfamiliar backdrops alone, Just to feel a sense of hope, But at the end of the day, There's a light I do pray, Shines from the front porch of our home. In a crowd you are found, With a gaze homeward bound, Well thoughts run through your head, Oh what's started can't be left, Let us do what is best. If the fields and the flowers, Scarecrows and the big tall towers linger, Wrap your arms around, Think about the town, Where your loved ones are found. So you follow a trail back home, Rest in unfamiliar backdrops alone, Just to feel a sense of hope, But at the end of the day, There's a light I do pray, Shines from the front porch of our home.

Paper Boy 03:55
Pen to paper, Words from thoughts, I've been wondering, Oh what my soul is for. On my way out, I see a paper boy, Search for houses, He seems lost, When his eyes meet mine. Oh well so am I. An hour later, I'm saying my goodbyes, Watching half of me, Leave for the home, She's built for life. Couldn't stop her, Wish I'd tried. Now I return, To a familiar place, I meet the paper boy, He who is once lost, Is filled with grace. Oh how I wish I felt the same. Oh how I wish I felt the same. Oh how I wish I felt the same. Oh how I wish I felt the same.

Welcome to my head, I'm sorry it's a mess, I've deserted all my friends, But it can't be helped. Vision's blurred, By a storm, Not quite sure what's going on, It's all just a little too much. Oh I'm tired of the stress, Need a place to rest my head, Paperbag on my head, Caffeinated insomniac. Good Night World. Good Night World. So my heart took a stroll, Disconnected from my soul, There's no pressure, no regret, No compassion, no correct. Good Night World. Good Night World. You might ask why, Why ignore, After all if you hurt you learn, Take a dive for a better turn, My answer is that I just don't know. Have you ever felt comfort, In disconnect, You know the feeling, When there's just no feeling, This is my god honest conclusion, That once in a while we all yearn for that place. So my heart took a stroll, Disconnected from my soul, There's no pressure, no regret, No compassion, no correct. Good Night World. Good Night World. Good Night World. Good Night World. Good Night World. Good Night World.

Run 03:53
Fabric stretching through my veins, Stretching through the infinite drawings in my head. I am holding on today, Holding to your yesterdays, As they run astray. Run, Run. You sang to the stars and the moon, Hoping they would sing your tune. My heart was the victim of your head on collision, With your breathless sweeping of my feet. Run, Run. The calming of the streets, After two long solemn weeks, Is the only resolution that I find, In a world as colorblind, As the boy who subsides, To the shrouding lullaby, Deafens such a beautiful disguise. Run, Run.

about

Having released a collective of home based recordings called "The Simple Plan" in 2008, Asela advanced to a slightly more ambitious venture via the "Fickle Kings And Drama Queens" EP in 2010.

After a mini break from song writing, purely due to the need to take a breather and focus on actually making a living, he's returned to penning a few songs in the last 4-5 months. This has resulted in the newly completed "Paper Boy".

The EP starts with the summer warmth of "Let's Build A Taj Mahal", the lead single off of the EP, which has already received radio play in his island home Sri Lanka. From "Eyes Wide Open", which features the endearing vocals of Isuri Dayaratne, to the calm of "Home" and search for answers in the title track "Paper Boy" it is clear that Asela has found his niche and strength. The EP then rounds of with a self reflective "Good Night World" and pensive "Run". The EP closer "20:55", stated as his personal favorite off the EP, is his very first instrumental piece which is an inspired story in itself.

The "Paper Boy" EP was released on 25 August 2011.
